Frequently asked questions
Hyra offers a full range of excavators from micro and mini diggers – through standard, electric and hybrid machines, to utilities workhorses, super-sized 50T powerhouses, or specialist long-reach machines. We have a full range of wheeled and backhoe machines. We have excavators with leading-edge environmental credentials, including zero carbon electric excavators. Other fuel options include bio-oils and HVO fuel.
You can hire specialist excavators, diggers and backhoes for every type of job from Hyra. If you’re not quite sure what’s the best option for your job, our team of hire experts are always on hand to offer free advice. With us, you only ever talk to plant hire experts, not order takers at call centres.
Tell us what you are looking to lift, how you are using the machine and what reach you require. Our technical sales team are happy to advise and send you specification sheets with lifting performance diagrams to help you choose the most suitable solution.
Hyra can source any brand of excavator, digger or backhoe from market leaders, such as Volvo, Cat and JCB to specialist brands including Bobcat, Hitachi, Kubota and more. Whatever you need, we’ve got it.
We offer a range of low carbon solutions from fully electric excavators (smaller machines only), to hybrid or the most efficient Stage V engine models. To optimise your operations, telematics and machine control can be used. Almost all machines with diesel engines can now also run on HVO biofuel which reduces carbon.
Hydrogen powered excavators are still being developed and trialled. They are generally seen as the future power source for medium and large excavators.
Yes! We are specialist suppliers of excavators and can provide a large range of specialist attachments. In some instances we manufacture attachments specifically for clients. Telematics and machine control are increasingly being used to increase site productivity, save cost and reduce CO2. Please ask how we can help.
Our technical team can offer advice and support to make sure that we supply the right type of machine for your need. This is the case, regardless of how specialist the machine, attachment or machine control is. If you do have a preference or requirement for a specific make or model, we will get this for you if there is availability in the UK.
All excavators are supplied by trusted supply chain partners. With over £100m of supply chain deals in this sector alone, the Hyra team use analytics and industry knowledge to ensure we partner with only the highest-performing partners. This is based on the following metrics: fleet age profile, breakdown frequency, response time, % first fix times, and on-time delivery/collection.
Many of our customers hire on a long-term basis with us and find it an attractive alternative to CAPEX purchase. Tell us the type of machine you require and for what duration and we will give you a competitive quotation. Most machines hired on this basis are new or nearly new and come with industry-leading service support.
The cost of hiring an excavator varies depending on a variety of factors including the machine specification, the rental period and seasonality. A lot of small businesses overpay for excavator rental because they only have time to contact a limited number of plant hire providers. Hyra is plugged into a huge network of plant hire suppliers across the UK, which means we can shop around for the best possible price. What’s more we also have the buying power to get hire rates normally reserved for very large construction businesses.
Typically our clients are in civil engineering, facilities management, events or construction. Construction sectors include: building, rail, highways, airports, marine, energy, water, and environmental infrastructure. We do not support private DIY enthusiasts or builders who trade as sole traders or partnerships.
