Some main contractors and sites have mandated cabbed dumpers as they provide better protection should an incident occur. It is also far more pleasant to operate a cabbed dumper in the rain or cold. The downside of the cab is that it can get hot or steam up in summer. Either way, it is important to note that cabbed models command a significant cost premium.
Telematics are commonplace in modern plant. At large sites where there are multiples of the same type of asset, it can be useful to assess the performance of your plant on a single platform. This can help evaluate metrics such as the actual amount of time the machine was used in the day. Many projects have reduced their cost and increased the productive hours of their hired assets by using the latest technology to advise their management teams.
HVO fuel is a sustainable biodiesel derived from waste and residue feedstock. It can be used as an alternative to diesel in almost all machines we supply and is considered to be a greener alternative. It has been said that HVO reduces greenhouse gases by 90%. These are high percentage claims and should be tempered a little as HVO still impacts the environment. The increased adoption of HVO in the UK has meant the price per litre has increased significantly over traditional diesel.
We are seeing rapid product innovation even in traditional plant categories such as dozers. One example is the newly launched Cat D6 XE which features the world's first high drive electric drive. Real-world testing is showing fuel efficiency gains in excess of 20%. Ask us about new innovative plant and how we can help you run a more sustainable site.

If you have a large, complex or long-term site set-up, you may benefit from a site visit or technical needs-analysis discussion to ensure that the solution matches your needs. We consider your specification, the total cost, carbon used, resilience requirement and noise. Solutions can include linking multiple generators, efficient Stage V engines, telematics, battery units, solar and HVO fuel.
For medium and larger generator set-ups, battery solutions not only reduce carbon but are increasingly proving cost effective when considering the fuel costs. Batteries can reduce energy consumption by between 40% and 70% depending on application. Battery solutions also offer periods of silent running.
With unparalleled access to data we can monitor your assets, optimise their performance and help reduce carbon. Telematics help us 'right size’ your site to ensure the most appropriately sized generator is being used and it is duly maintained to be in optimal condition. On top of that, telematics help with the basics, such as advising when the fuel needs replenishing so it doesn’t run out.
Stage V generators have the newest and most advanced engines. This means they perform better than Stage III or IV engines and benefit from improved fuel efficiency, reduced CO2, reduced nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions. The units cost considerably more to manufacture which means there is a price premium to hire Stage V machines, so this will need to be factored into budgets.

Like many things, electric machines come with pros and cons. Our expert team can help you decide if they are suited to your site and budgetary requirements. Key advantages of electric include: low carbon, low noise, no need for fuel storage on-site. Disadvantages can be: a limited number of working hours between charge, challenges charging at site, higher weekly hire cost, and limited lift reach and capacity.
Typically our clients are in civil engineering, facilities management, events or construction. Construction sectors include: building, rail, highways, airports, marine, energy, water, and environmental infrastructure. Rotating or rotary telehandlers (rotos) are incredibly versatile and manoeuvrable, all terrain machines. They have become increasingly popular as they can perform the roles of a telehandler, a small crane and an access platform with a reach of up to 35m. Their versatility makes rotos highly desirable and cost effective for many site applications. They come with front and rear outriggers and all but the entry level machines have continuous slew (rotate 360 degrees an unlimited number of times).
Hyra offers a full range of forklifts from small counterbalance trucks of up to 3.5 ton, through to medium-sized workhorses of 7 ton right up to large and heavy-duty industrial forklifts of 15 ton+. We have LPG, diesel and 100% electric forklifts, narrow-bodied forklifts with teletruck telescopic booms and even rough terrain forklifts with 2wd or 4wd – designed to work outdoors or on uneven surfaces.
We also have side-loader forklifts adept at transporting long loads in narrow environments. These can be either indoor or outdoor machines. If you need a pallet truck, stacker or reach truck, we've got those too – perfect for manoeuvring heavy, high-rise pallets in narrow aisles or stacking pallets in warehouses.
You can hire specialist forklifts for every type of job from Hyra. If you’re not quite sure what’s the best option for your job, our team of hire experts are always on hand to offer free advice. With us, you only ever talk to plant hire experts, not order takers at call centres.

Like many things, electric machines come with pros and cons. Our expert team can help you decide if they are suited to your site and budgetary requirements. Key advantages of electric include: low carbon, low noise, no need for fuel storage on-site. Disadvantages can be: a limited number of working hours between charge, challenges charging at site, higher weekly hire cost, limited lift reach and capacity.
Hyra offers a full range of telehandler sizes including: 4m, 6m, 7m, 9m, 12m, 13m, 14m, 17m, 18m and 20m. We also supply heavy-lift telehandlers specifically designed to work in heavy-lift industries, shipping, quarries, mining, and oil and gas plants. We also supply rotating telehandlers up to 29m. We’ve got what you need, whether you’re looking for a small and compact telehandler or a large telehandler.
You can hire specialist telehandlers for every type of job from Hyra. This includes a full range of agricultural telehandlers, telescopic handlers, buggiscopic, all terrain and 360 rotos. We also supply machines designed for the waste and recycling industry such as the Wastemaster, skid-steer machines for tight or refined spaces, electric telehandlers, narrow-bodied machines such as teletrucks, as well as machines which are road legal. If you’re not quite sure what’s the best option for your job, our team of hire experts are always on hand to offer free advice. With us, you only ever talk to plant hire experts, not order takers at call centres.
We offer rental on a full range of attachments including: telehandler buckets, brushes, sweepers, baskets, breakers, cages, extension forks, glass lifters, block grabs, grapples, lifting hooks, log grabs, side shift fork carriage, jibs, hydraulic forks, tipping skips, scrapers, grass tyres, solid tyres, snow ploughs and winches. If it’s been invented, we’ve got it!
Hyra’s rental periods are very flexible. We can help whether you need a telehandler for a week, a month or long term including fixed, low cost multi-year contracts which are great alternatives to leasing or buying. We also offer open-ended rentals if you’re not sure exactly how long you need a telehandler for. We even send monthly reports showing everything you’ve got on-hire to remind you to return equipment you no longer need.
The cost of hiring a telehandler varies depending on a variety of factors including the machine specification, the rental period and seasonality. A lot of small businesses overpay for telehandler rental because they only have time to contact a limited number of plant hire providers. Hyra is plugged into a huge network of plant hire suppliers across the UK, which means we can shop around for the best possible price. What’s more we also have the buying power to get hire rates normally reserved for very large construction businesses.
Typically our clients are in civil engineering, facilities management, events or construction. Construction sectors include: building, rail, highways, airports, marine, energy, water, and environmental infrastructure. We do not support private DIY enthusiasts or builders who trade as sole traders or partnerships.

The technology within solar tower light solutions has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. In many instances the operational performance of solar equals diesel while running silently and producing zero emissions. The price premium has also decreased and now solar can achieve cost parity with diesel. However, solar will not perform in some site circumstances. Sites shaded by trees or buildings, and sites in very tight spaces are not always solar-friendly, as the solar panels take double the footprint of a diesel unit. Contact us to find out more.
Yes! We provide a full range of site lighting options. If your site is complex, we can perform a lighting survey or needs-analysis call to produce a site lighting plan for you. Considerations often include the type of lighting (electric, diesel or solar) as well as: lux level; lumins; running time; noise; total running costs including fuel and hire; site layout; fuel storage; fill and safety risk (if applicable); space; positioning; any associated safety risk.
It's a minefield! Choosing between diesel, hybrid and solar lights can be confusing, especially when you are considering the cost of fuel as well as the weekly unit hire price. There can also be huge variations in fuel efficiency, running time and general performance within these three categories. Tell us your requirements and how long you intent to run the unit and we will produce a calculator showcasing the options. You can assess the total cost and carbon used and make a decision based on your budget and sustainability goals.
Hybrid tower light solutions have surpassed diesel tower lights in terms of fuel efficiency. The units are typically more expensive to hire, but can often run two or three times longer than a standard diesel unit and up to seven times longer than the most inefficient units in the market. Contact us and we can help you plot your costs in our tower light calculator so you can make the best decision for your wallet and the environment.
Many of our customers hire on a long-term basis with us and find it an attractive alternative to CAPEX purchase. Tell us the type of machine you require and for what duration and we will give you a competitive quotation. Most machines hired on this basis are new or nearly new and come with industry-leading service support.

No! Our standard solutions are built for trade customers who spend between £20,000 and £500,000 per year on plant and equipment. We keep the T&C's simple by using standard Hire Association Europe terms without variation. We are so confident of our service that we do not ask our customers for exclusivity or a minimum cancellation period. Our customer retention is industry-leading because of the extra value we deliver.
Yes! Our normal working hours are 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. However, we do support work activities, projects and events outside of these hours. Please talk to us and tell us about your requirement so we have the right phone, technical and operational support to match your needs. We will then document and share the agreed operational support plan to make sure it matches your requirements.
Definitely! The Hyra team have built some of the largest plant hire desks in the industry, two of which transact over £25m of hire every year. We support clients who have larger needs and wish to outsource or white label their plant hire and we deliver an extraordinary range of cost and value improvements. For these larger requirements we do request minimum contract terms. This is to ensure that our technology and staffing levels are appropriately matched to your requirements and we can robustly deliver and meet your expectations, however high.
